Shane West and Bijou Phillips star in this biopic that chronicles the tumultuous life of Darby Crash and the birth of punk rock in the United States. Set in Los Angeles in 1977, two disenfranchised outcasts living on the fringes of a West Los Angeles High School, meet one another and a band is formed. They play a comical gig, since none of them actually know how to play their instruments, and quickly earn the reputation as a force of chaos. The boys reinvent themselves as Darby Crash, Pat Smear, and Lorna Doom, adopting the name “The Germs.” The Germs’ shows routinely provoked riots until their eventual ban from every club in the city. Darby had a five-year plan to become a legendary hero, tragically culminating in suicide. Darby ironically fulfilled his mission on the same day John Lennon was assassinated, eclipsing much of the notoriety of the event.
