The story of a veteran of WWII and Korea, who, after years of suffering racial discrimination, violence, injustice, and life on the run, takes control of his destiny, changes his circumstances, and teaches thousands of inmates to read. This moving DocuFilm gives voice to Robert Coney, as he tells the story of his forty-four year odyssey behind bars for crimes he did not commit; his eight escapes from maximum security prisons; the touching love for his common law wife, who stood by him through it all; and how his American struggle for justice serves as an inspiring legacy for future generations.

A well done documentary chronicling the life, struggles, and exceptional accomplishments of a young African-American man in the mid-20th century, and how the Southern U.S. justice system put him in prison for 40 years - for a crime he did not commit, and worse yet, for an alleged robbery of a man who had something to hide himself. You leave the theater wanting to know more.... And as you process what you just saw, you realize it could have even happened to you. This is a film and story that has legs.
