Run time: 5 min.
Holbox, Mexico is a tiny, remote island north of the Yucatan Peninsula. Its residents traditionally subsisted on fishing. When the fish supply began to dwindle, citizens looked for another source of income. They realized that the whale sharks of the area would be a huge draw to tourists. Residents have successfully converted their economy to eco-tourism and are now protecting the world's biggest fish, the Whale Shark.
